I had to cut and paste this email from Connor's teacher...

Connor's teacher sends out emails every so often describing the atmosphere in the classroom. In the first email she indicated that some of the kids were being a bit disruptive and also lectured the parents about making sure kids weren't bringing toys to class. I responded that I'd appreciate any feedback she had on Connor. This is what I got back:

I'd like to place an order for 24 more just like Connor! I've really enjoyed having him in class. He can be rather serious at times. I love his eagerness.

Something funny and cute happened last week with Connor. I wasn't sure he would tell you this story, so I wanted to share it with you.

We were lining up for lunch and one of the boys asked me why his hands were stinging after using the hand sanitizer. I explained that he probably had some tiny cuts on his hands and that the alcohol in the sanitizer was burning just a little, but that it was ok, because it was cleaning his cuts at the same time. Connor was standing behind this boy and heard our conversation. He stuck his hands out, looked rather alarmed and said in a panicked voice, "I'm not supposed to touch alcohol!!!"

I have several children with severe allergies, so my mind is racing, trying to remember anything about an alcohol allergy while looking at his hands for any evidence that they are blistering or about to fall off or something. Connor was still panicking, his voice getting a little higher pitched with every piece of information he could give me: "I've already touched it. I used it today." Then he finally gets to the part that helps me the most, "My mom and dad don't even touch alcohol. We're Mormon!"

Whew. I tried to explain that the hand sanitizer contains rubbing alcohol, which is a different kind from what he was thinking. He seemed ok after that.

Thanks for the email-

Back to School!

So yesterday marked the first day of 2nd grade for the boys. It was clear Connor was excited to start school when I found him in the media room with the cartoons blasting at 2 a.m. Yes 2 AM! He is our early riser but that was insanity. Needless to say I put him back to bed and alerted him that he still had many hours of sleep time ahead of him before his school day would begin. The kids ate their 1st day of school breakfast treat of cinnamon rolls (let the teachers deal with that sugar high) and then they bounced out the door to catch the bus. We are fortunate to live just beyond the mile marker that divides the walkers/drop offs from the bused kids. As for school budget cuts, increase the class size to 25 but don't take away my bus service please... :)

We are very excited about this year. I separated the boys so they have different teachers but we've heard wonderful things about both of them. If I get the same compliments about the boys from their teachers at school as I do from their primary teachers at church, we will be very thrilled. My only concern is homework. Just hoping their assignments are similar or that their teachers have the same views about the amount of homework to give. Not looking forward to the painful conversations that could arise if one gets a lot more homework than the other...

Sage will officially start a preschool program next week that I'm doing with a few other friends. This will be a change from the paid preschool I did for the two years before the boys started kindergarten. But Sage is so easy, seems more socially mature, and has a great bunch of friends her age so it seemed foolish not to join a few friends and do a preschool program of our own. Granted now that Sage's entertainment team has headed back to school I may be wishing I had done the "paid" preschool but she is my little buddy and I'm a bit sad to see her leave the nest...

Annual Summer Trip to Utah

Can hardly believe Summer is just about over. Again, we've just returned from another fun trip out to Utah for 3 1/2 weeks. Jack was able to make it out for 10 of those days which was great. We can always count on him for fun filled, action packed days! We were also very excited about seeing many friends from different chapters in our lives. Thanks to the Moore's for our pool day, the Merrill's for Jack's hike and our visits, the Seneca's for our Sunday breakfast, the Featherstones for our evening dessert, Marilee Moe for the pool date, and also a special thanks to Jack's mission president and his sweet wife for having us over for our annual visit and to Bev and Nancy for a fun evening of girl time. I don't know what we'd do without so many of our wonderful friends. Of course, I cannot thank my family enough for always opening up their home to us. Here are some of the highlights of this trip.

Off roading behind Deer Creek. This was my brother Paul's idea and aside from the sides of my old car being completely scratched up and Ty mentioning how cool it is that we now have dozens of "race stripes" running down the sides of the car, it was a lot of fun!

Getting to spend a little time with Teagen. The boys and Sage were especially excited to see their cousin Teagen. Although it wasn't for much time, it was better than nothing... I'm making a prediction now that he will play college sports of some sort. He's one athlete!

The boys attending BYU all sports camp. They had a blast playing a different sport each day. It was like a NYC reunion when we arrived. Many of our friends came out for the same camp which made drop off and pick up a lot more fun!

Swimming, Swimming, and more Swimming! One of the things we love about coming out to Utah is having such convenient access to pools. This year in addition to Scera Pool in Orem, we added the Lindon, Lehi, and Provo pools to our favorites list. The kids loved all of them!

Once Jack arrives into town, the real fun begins...One of his first adventures was taking Sean and Paul to Sundance to rent these Digglers (scooters) that we had seen last year. He was dying to test them out. The trip was successful until poor Paul decided to do some risky maneuvers on his and ended up tearing apart his back...

One of the big highlights of the trip was watching Connor, Tyler and Jack speak in my parent's branch that they serve in at church. They did a fantastic job. Afterwards we took a few of these shots:

Boating! Even Sage took her turn out on the tube with Jack. One of these days we may just have to give in and buy our own boat...

A trip to Snowbird with Steve where the kids panned for minerals, hanging out at the Provo River, and hunting down where all the paragliders are taking off from. There was a national championship happening during the time we were out there and one of the take off points was up on the mountain behind my parents house. It was amazing to see 80 paragliders all circling in the air above my parents house. Jack and I have put this on our list of stuff to try next summer...

Nothing beats spending time with the family!

Sadly, these are the only photos I got of friends while we were out. Ty actually took this cute family photo of the Featherstone's and thanks to Bev's automatic timer on her camera, we were able to grab this shot of Nancy, Bev, and I.

And finally on our last night in Utah we celebrated mom and dad's anniversary at Tepanyaki... Provo's version of Benihana's!

Another fun filled summer. Countdown to next summer... :)
