Life in Lockdown...

So after a fabulous spring break vacation we are back to reality, only this is a new reality, one just a few weeks ago we could never have imagined. Schools, businesses and church was done. Wall street had crashed with stocks like Sea World losing 75% of their value in a matter of a couple weeks. The death toll in places like Italy and China was climbing fast and furiously with the elderly or those with compromised health systems making up the greatest percentage of the deaths. Recommendations from the CDC and WHO organizations changed daily whether it be in regards to wearing a mask, how far to distance yourself from others to if you could safely touch even a piece of delivered mail. Understandably this was new territory for everyone but panic was clearly setting in for many. What should have been a blip was feeling like a period at the end of a sentence. Thankfully though with all the terrible news we were surrounded by, we felt fortunate knowing there were far worse places to have to lock down than in our home in Florida. It was also a treat to have Jack home for about 6 weeks straight since his offices were closed up too.

So when the kids weren't suffering through their new remote learning and Jack was done with his work calls, here are a few things we did with all our new found time...and yes most of it revolved around being outside!

So what do you do when the final meet you had been preparing for to get your legal times for college is cancelled and your club practices are forced to stop due to the pool closing? You get creative and tie a bungee to a palm tree. Granted after a week or so of doing this it felt useless and frustrating for poor Ty but I loved his desire to come up with a creative solution to not having access to a competition pool.



Who knew we had such an artist in the family!!! Sage had decided to do some chalk art and how thrilled I was to see her dress up our driveway a bit. It turned out fantastic. So much so that after a little encouragement, she decided to replicate her sidewalk art onto one of her bedroom walls. We had struggled to find the right art to buy to put on this wall but she solved that. And kudos to her since she literally did everything from picking the colors, creating the design, taping the wall, doing all the painting and removing the tape!





It was times like this I was so grateful for living on a lake. We spent countless hours on the wave runners and enjoyed many beautiful sunsets from the middle of the lake. There was fishing, tubing, and Sage even learned to wake board! Not to mention we finally got Nova out on the tube too!






One of the best decisions we made with the house was building a sports pool. After being locked up for a few weeks away from friends it was only a matter of time before the boys would find ways to get together with their friends...



Now we just pray that we can learn ways to protect the elderly and those with underlying health issues while figuring out a way to get the world back up and running. If we can't figure out a way to keep livelihoods intact, we are at risk at losing even more lives. May God comfort those who have lost loved ones to this horrible virus and may a vaccine come about quickly for those that could benefit from it.
